White Forum (4th/5th Grade)
Bellevue is a special place. The concept of self-discovery through exploratory learning is the driving force behind what we do. It's so powerful that it will follow your student throughout his/her time in education and into life. Students come away from Bellevue with a sense of purpose, understanding of their strengths, acknowledgment of areas of need, and drive to tackle a challenge. Bellevue students are leaders in their educational communities.
We alternate between fourth and fifth-grade language arts/history curriculums in the
JoEd Sennes (“Ms. Sennes”)
two-year span students are in White Forum. Fourth-grade curriculum is focused on California history, and the fifth-grade curriculum is focused on United States history. Both years’ cycles come alive through simulations and hands-on learning opportunities.
Writing is emphasized and utilized in all subjects. Practice in this discipline makes for confident communicators and articulate thinkers. We believe that good instruction should build connections between the student’s world and beyond.
Mathematics is another subject that is prioritized. To obtain depth in mathematics, the underlying “why” must be addressed. Additionally, projects are important in concept acquisition to supplement traditional practice. We are a learn by doing school.
However, educators support what parents begin. Parents should be the first to model curiosity in learning and resilience towards failure. Parents should model positive redirection and risk-taking. WE are a team! May you see this in my teaching and the steps I take towards moving with an evolving profession.
