For the week of February 10th, 2010
1. Last week, during Pet Week, we had several visiting animals, including a dog, a cat, a frog, a chicken, and two rats. We talked about what pets need and why we have them in our families. We took pet surveys for math, wrote about our own pets or ones we wished we had, drew items for our personal pet shops, and made dog biscuits (Well, did your dog recipient love them?) for cooking. Our 9th annual Stuffed Animal Pet Show was terrific, as usual. I'm glad so many of you could join in the fun.
2. Tuesday of this week will be our 100th Day of School Celebration. For math homework, Each child is to bring in a collection of 100 items to display. Please help your child count out (in piles of ten) their pieces and design some way of displaying them. I have copied the last page in the story Miss Bindergarten Celebrates the 100th Day of Kindergarten, to give you an idea of what I am looking for. But get creative about yours. Please call me if you have any questions.
3. “FRIENDSHIP” is now our new theme, and we’ll be focusing on activities related with that. We will also be learning about mail and our dramatic play area will be transformed into a post office. If anyone has supplies that could be added, bring them in. Please make sure your permission slip is in for our visit to the post office on Thursday. We will be mailing the letter home that your child has been working on. Be on the lookout for this very important mail. Also, each child will need to bring a shoebox to decorate at school for their personal mailbox. Please bring that in by Wednesday, along with any fun collage items we could add to the outside of the boxes. We could use any extra boxes if you have them. For Valentine’s Day, I would like each child to create a card (handmade ones are the best) and/or treat for each child in class. This is part of their homework, and the writing is to be done by the kids, not the parents. Example: To _______ From ______ A class list is attached. Please bring cards on Friday and not sooner. Also, please read with your child the library book they have picked out on friendship.
3. Remember that you will be invited to our Invention Convention Friday, the March 6th at 11:30. We need customers to oooh and aaah over our awesome ideas and creations, so please put that on your schedule.
4. Book Orders for February are due this Friday.
5. Please make sure you have a change of clothes and an emergency snack is available in your child's cubby. We are noticing that some children are forgetting to bring a snack, and having something they already like available is a real help.
6. The upcoming President’s Day school holiday is next Friday, February 21st, and there will be no school.
7. Parents...thanks again for all you do. I could not do all of these wonderful things without you. ~ Kathy
