LANGUAGE ARTS

• Children have continuous opportunity to develop oral communication skills in listening and speaking in both meetings and daily interactions.
• Students listen, explore and respond to quality literature and identify with characters, themes, plots, and settings.
• In class, we explore the basic facts and ideas in what we've read, heard, experienced, or viewed.
• Kids learn about letters, words, and sounds, and then begin to apply this knowledge to read and write.

MATH

• Children estimate, sort, and classify objects, as well as use mathematical problem solving strategies.
• Through a variety of activities, we count, recognize, represent, name, and explore the relationship between numbers and quantities.
• Kids observe, collect and record information using written numbers, graphs, measurements, etc.
• As the year progresses, students experience concepts in simple addition, subtraction, geometry, place value, time and money.

SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES

• Daily reading, writing, math, art and discovery experiences are often based on Science and Social Studies concepts.
• These "Life" themes are integrated throughout our curriculum with specific focus at certain times of the year.
• Our science program also includes our hands-on Science Teacher, Ag-Grow garden program and SciTechatorium museum.
• Knowledge is enhanced through oral sharing, books, hands-on projects, field trips and several special events.

ART AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION

• Visual Art is something that is focused on as an important part of our curriculum through daily creative and "process-oriented" projects.
• Performing Arts includes our changing dramatic play area, as well as  various performances we see or take part in.
• Our classroom thrives with active learning, and kids participate in both class activities and with our Physical Education program specialist.
• Inventive opportunities are always emerging and we take on new and exciting activities and projects each year!!
