First Grade Trimester Expectations
Fall Trimester
Language Arts: Reading, Writing, and Speaking
1. Each student should be able to read the 48 words listed below on sight (instantly).

2. Each student should name all 26 letters of the alphabet and identify them in random order.
3. Each student should demonstrate the sounds of the consonants and short and long vowel sounds.
4. Each student should be albe to verbally respond in a complete sentence when asked a question.
5. After reading or hearing a story each student should be able to tell
who is in the story (the characters),
where and when the story takes place (the setting), and
what happens in the beginning, middle, and end of the story.
6. Each student should be able to print his/her first and last name correctly.
7. Each student should be able to write one sentence
using uppercase and lowercase letters correctly,
ending the sentence with a period or question mark,
leaving spaces between the words,
spelling simple words (from our spelling lists) correctly, and
using inventive spelling with consonants (beginning and ending sounds).
8. Your student should be able to write the 15 words listed below.
